Zach Yudin says he's never been to Sayulita, but that hasn't stopped Cayucas from creating a captivating advertisement for a perfectly picturesque sleepy, seaside town that goes by the name. The dreamy haze lingers somewhere between the Eagles and Beach Boys, both at their most languid, and the end result is a smart pop earworm filled with vivid imagery. In short, the song is an instant hit.
A press release says the Cayucas will be back with more music next year, so for now we're just happy to see the new video for "Sayulita" following the release of Blue Summer in 2020. See below for the lyrics and check out the new video, directed by Gabriela Sibilska, above.
I fell asleep in Sayulita..
Down the long & wind-y road the wind was dusty dry
and the desert day is long in the middle of July
I fell asleep in Sayulita
woke up underneath the stars
empty bottles of cerveza
trying to fix a broken heart
but I’m tired of living life on the run
sangria sunrise the midnight sun
I wrote some words on the back of postcard
I’ll see you later in Sayulita
I fell asleep in Sayulita fell asleep in Sayulita
adios sleepy señorita
she was a sleepy señorita was a sleepy señorita
Sayulita
At the ‘Casa de Cayucas’ there’s a cuban smokers lounge
up through the hills of Santa Barbara through a sleepy seaside town
I fell asleep in Sayulita
woke up underneath the stars
empty bottles of cerveza
trying to fix a broken heart
but I’m tired of living life on the run
sangria sunrise the midnight sun
I wrote some words on the back of postcard
I’ll see you later in Sayulita
I fell asleep in Sayulita fell asleep in Sayulita
adios sleepy señorita
she was a sleepy señorita was a sleepy señorita
Sayulita
I fell asleep in Sayulita fell asleep in Sayulita
adios sleepy señorita
she was a sleepy señorita was a sleepy señorita
a sleepy senorita
I fell asleep in Sayulita...
