If you've heard her earliest singles as Frances Lion, it's easy to understand why Beth Lowen left her small town in her native Hampshire and never proverbially looked back. The charisma and gravity showcased on songs like "Wolf" and "Secondhand" demand to be heard, deserving of a bigger platform than the one naturally handed to her.
It's not a surprise she set a global course to find her musical way.
Over the last few years, Lowen's sonic pilgramage has taken her to Australia, Europe, and North America—the latter of which landed her in a room writing songs with the inimitable Linda Perry. We're excited to premiere one of the resulting singles today.
Frances Lion told us the following about her new song, "Garden," heard here via a live take.
“I wrote 'Garden' a few years ago on New Year’s Day. A lot of changes were happening in my life at the time, in relationships and work and various other things. The love I had for someone back then was quite suffocating so I wrote ‘Garden’ about the realization that even if you really love someone, it doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re good for you.”
