instant crush is right.

Maybe it's lazy to start there, but it's true. instant crush (yes, all lowercase) is a new Seattle-based foursome ready to release their debut album next month, but for now, we're hooked on the band's latest single, "SAFETY NET" (yes, all uppercase), for all the right reasons. It was an instant crush.

It makes us long for the days of putting bands like Paper Route or Passion Pit on repeat and letting the earworms take over. Think if Deep Sea Diver added some propulsion systems and you get instant crush—a band with the talent and taste to get in, grab you by the collar, and then let go far before you're ready.

Vocalist and songwriter Megan Cannon belies the darker relational inspiration with such an arresting and upbeat vehicle, but as she describes it, that's exactly what she was going for.

"SAFETY NET" is a song I wrote in the raw aftermath of a painful breakup. Throughout the relationship, I found myself grappling with an unsettling emotional unavailability, and it felt as though I was constantly being told how I should feel by this person who claimed to know me so well. It was a strange and disheartening situation that left me questioning my own emotions. I felt trapped, as if I was clinging to the relationship out of a deep-seated fear of disrupting what little comfort I had. Musically, I took a lot of inspiration from Bloc Party, and really wanted a fun, hard hitting, indie rock leaning song that would do well live, and I think we captured exactly that.

Together with their previous single "Apology Tour", which arrives with more of a strut, we're already hooked on instant crush (which also includes bandmates Matthew Tran, Keegan Mangahas, and Zoee Mangahas) and can't wait to get our hands on the debut full length. I'M SORRY I DIDN'T BITE MY TONGUE will be out October 25 (via Share It Music) which you can pre-order here
