The allure of Lewis Wharton's bass work is obvious here, on Little Barrie's new single, "More Bad Miles of Road," but it's the open space around it that's responsible for its magic.
Tony Coote's steady percussion. Barrie Cadogan's guitar flourishes. Around the dominant and compelling bass is the band's smart arrangement that keeps everything restrained enough to stand out. Nothing overplayed. When taken together, it whets the appetite for more of what Little Barrie has in the pipeline.
Gravity Freeze is the new album (out May 22 via Easy Eye Sound), but we've got the lead single here. Check the audio above and read more from Cadogan about the song below:
“‘More Bad Miles Of Road’ was written from the bass, which I was fooling around with one morning at home. I liked the idea of a bassline that sounded like it could have been played on an upright bass rather than a bass guitar. I’m not sure I achieved it, but I liked the result. I stripped the music down for the bridge sections in the aim of making something more minimal with sparse bursts of guitar around the scratch vocal. Tony Coote put the stops and starts in on the drums which I really liked. It came together pretty fast and felt good. One of the earlier tunes written for the album.”
