Sometimes it takes a few tries to find the right recipe. Filippa Frisell and Erik Olsson are onto something this time around.

That's not intended as a slight to any previous incarnations of their musical talents. Frisell's background in a folk-pop duo, Bella & Filippa, found some traction posting cover tunes. Olsson's stayed busy as a guitarist-for-hire also taking the indie route as a solo artist. Together as Orange Oak, however, the Swedes have stumbled into something exquisite.

A debut LP is on the way from Orange Oak, but the latest single, "well, well, well", is an affecting foretaste of what's to come. About the track, they offered this perspective:

“‘well, well, well’ was born out of a place we wouldn’t wish upon anyone. It’s a reflection on all the pain and anger we stow away. It’s about the instinct to quantify feelings; to explain why you’ve felt a certain way without letting people see quite the whole picture. Who’s to say they would understand it, anyway?”

Here are the full lyrics for "well, well, well":

all of my lows

and all of my anger
salt of surrender
salt to the sea

too old to think I’m an island
to act like a child
then come up for air

well, well
look who’s alive again
look who decided to pick up their phone and then
hoping to catch up wherever left off
and return to the scene of the crime at no fault
oh well, well, well well?

manifest hope and conjure some answers
all conjecture and banter
bury the lede

and all this time I tried to outsmart me
I’ll be damned what it cost me every time

well, well
look who’s alive again
look who decided to pick up their phone and then
hoping to catch up wherever left off
and return to the scene of the crime at no fault
oh well, well, well
well?
