Matthew Iwanusa spent the '10s as the frontman for Caveman, an indie rock band that released three acclaimed albums in a five-to-six-year span that earned the Brooklyn band a solid following and years of impressive touring stints. After the release of 2016's Otero War, however, Caveman faded from view and Iwanusa has remained out of the public eye—at least with any new music to call his own.
RIP Dunes is the answer to what Iwanusa has been up to, at least in part, as a new musical outlet more focused on guitar work than synths, although the same warm atmospheric focus is in place this time around as well. RIP Dunes' lead single "In Real Life" just released today, and it's an instant hit with its dreamy melody and impressive guitar work.
While we're a bit frustrated to find there's only one track available at present, we're heartened to know more music is likely on the way. And if nothing else, that means "In Real Life" is doing the work it should which is to whet the appetite for more.
In real life
I had you going through it
The real life
No way to fall into it
You came around
But nothing helped you do it
Only to be with you
Only to see it through
You run out of here
You run out of here
In real life
I had you going through it
The real life
No way to fall into it
You came around
But nothing helped you do it
Only to be with you
Only to see it through
You run out of here
You run out of here
It's in my soul
Am I ready
Now I know why
Am I ready
To decide on the lies outside
Want to say its always wrong
When you're left behind
You run out of here
You run out of here
You run out of here
You run out of here
