"Do you like me?"
After listening to the newest single from Theo Bleak (Katie Lynch's musical nom de plume), entitled "Said Like A Poet," the impulse is to give an instant "yes." Lynch's newest composition creates an atmosphere akin to that of Hannah Georgas and other alt-pop songwriters whose work enchants as much as it affects.
Lynch had this to say about the song's origin and context:
“Said Like A Poet" is a scathing look at how much I idealize intellect, even though I'm entirely emotionally driven. I think ideas can be beautifully written between people, but ultimately, there are concepts that lack properness—regardless of how pretentiously you write them out. I wrote this song about very human things, things I wish I knew how to ask for.
The song is featured on Theo Bleak's forthcoming EP, Bad Luck is Two Yellow Flowers (out 5/15 on Polymoon), available for pre-order here. Listen via the video above and check out the lyrics to "Said Like a Poet" here:
Said like a poet, drawn as a sketch
Not in a way, that frames you the best
But in the dark, you say what you like
It could be anyone, when you turn out the light
Man, I could have been someone
Man, I could have been someone
Can you worry your way out of this one?
Man, I could have been someone
I could have been someone
Just like a poet, persuasive in verse
Meant in a way, that makes me look worse
Man, I could have been someone
Man, I could have been someone
Can you worry your way out of this one?
Man, I could have been someone
I could have been someone
Can you worry your way out of this one?
Man, I could have been someone
Do you like me now?
Do you like me now?
Do you like me now?
Do you like me?
Do you like me?
